Split Rock Moonrise
A nearly full moon rising behind the Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore of Lake Superior, MN. A rare positioning of the moon caught on a unusually clear evening created the beautiful pastel colors in the Eastern sky just after sunset.

Autumn Moon

For One Minute
At twenty below zero, the ice crystals in the air project the light from the rising sun straight up over the frozen Lake Superior and the lighthouse in the bay. Lasting only for a minute as the deep blues of night gave way to the oranges of daylight, only to turn muddy gray a minute later.

Ghost Light
On November 10th each year, the Minnesota Historical Society lights the Split Rock Lighthouse in memory of the lives lost aboard the ore ship, the Edmund Fitzgerald This was a cold and rainy evening and the time exposure caused the waves to take a ghostly appearance as the light cast it's beacon over the lake.
